 COVID and the Ski Season

As we plan for GKHAT starting up, the board is updating our COVID-19 policies and practice. It is important to keep in mind these are subject to change as the restrictions in British Columbia are revised. Our COVID information is located in the main menu bar on our website.

Our head coaches are currently working on creating ski groups. We will be grouping athletes under U12 in community cohorts. Consequently, we will be shifting a small number of kids from Saturday to Sunday and vice versa. Sarah Recoskie (our head Nancy Greene coach) will contact those families in the coming days.

Changes this season will likely include:

  • New cold-weather policy.

  • Increased use of chairlift access.

  • Staggered drop off/pickup times and locations by group.

  • Changes in the duration of the ski day.

  • Daily COVID waiver completion.

  • The yurt will be off-limits to athletes.

Daily Safe Skiing operations will hinge on strict maintenance of:
  • Social Distancing: Minimum 3m distance (two ski poles) between athletes. Lifts are an exception.

  • Hand Hygiene: Athletes will be required to carry a personal container of (alcohol based) hand sanitizer and use it frequently as per detailed protocols.

  • Mask use: Athletes will be required to wear either a nonmedical mask OR buff with a fitted filtered mask component continuously through the day. Traditional single layer buffs are not acceptable as masks.

  • It is mandatory for all families participating this season to familiarize themselves with and abide by all of GKHAT and provincial public health protocols for themselves and their athletes.
