IMPORTANT UPDATE
Revelstoke NGSL Race

Please be aware that the Revelstoke NGSL race is on March 7 and March 8. March 7 is for the U6 and U8 kids while March 8 is for the U10 and U12 kids. The start list will be based on “groups” of similar aged kids from their home clubs. The race notice includes information about accommodation and details about the races and ceremony.
To read the full race notice, follow this link.
Family Day Weekend
Next weekend will be the BC and Alberta family day weekend, which is one of Kicking Horse’s busiest weekends of the year. Please consider arriving early (by 8:40), so your child's ski group can get in the cue as soon as possible and so you can find a reasonable parking spot. Keep in mind the drop off zone is likely to be busy and congested. For safety reasons, we recommend parking in the upper lot above the yurt due to the increase in traffic anticipated in the drop-off area and main road,

Thank you in advance for your cooperation
 Race 101 for Parents
Ever wonder what your kids are talking about with all the race lingo? Would you like to understand more about the racing world from Nancy Greene, Zone Races to FIS level? Feel more confident in the volunteer position you are signing up for on race days? Then, please come join us for a brief session after drop off on Saturday, February 8 and/or Sunday, February 9 and we’ll tell you all about it! Please sign up and RSVP on the GKHAT website. Be sure to log in first when registering!
GKHAT Nancy Greene Festival
Our Nancy Greene Festival is fast approaching. Our TWO day NG festival includes a GS race AND a mini ski cross course for ALL of our Mini, U6, U8, U10 and U12 athletes on Saturday February 22nd and an All Mountain Adventure Race and Dual Slalom on Sunday February 23rd. This is a weekend of ski fun and we can't wait! More details regarding race day will be sent out by coach Ryan/Sarah leading up to the event.

We now need your help to get ready to host a great race event (that will include our club and racers from other clubs as well.). We need you to:

1. Register your racer(s) for the event by Sunday February 16. ALL RACERS MUST be registered to race on this signup genius site by Sunday February 16th in order to participate in the events. Coaches groups and race bibs will be assigned based on your sign up for the festival.
2. Choose your race volunteer position. If your athlete is participating in the festival, we need you to sign up for a volunteer position. This first time two day event can not happen without you!! We need at least one volunteer from every family to cover the 75 volunteer positions of this race. Please choose a position that you will be able to help us with. There are many jobs, from tail-gunning to course set up, to course slipping to making goody bags. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Please look closely at the Race Day Groups (when the list comes out). Many of our athletes will remain with their regular coaches, but because this event has ALL of our athletes participating on both days, it requires some athletes be placed with new coaches. Please prepare your athlete for this change.

This will be an 8 hour course, taking place over the weekend of March 7-8, precise timings TBD

If interested, please email headcoach@gkhat.ca for more details... or better still, RSVP using this link.

Snow King Festival
The Snow King annual masque parade is coming up and GKHAT athletes are invited to participate. The event runs on February 15, 2020 from 6:45 pm to 10:00 pm. Marcel Cholo is looking to encourage participation by the GKHAT folks in this event. To show interest, please RSVP on the GKHAT calendar using this link. Remember to log in first!
Here's the outline for Snow King: There are random acts that are connected to a different theme every year- this year the theme is water. Bill Usher is the creative director and he collects the random acts and puts their storyline into beads. These beads are strung together to form a necklace of stories that are all connect by the theme. Bill then writes a script and narrates the whole act from beginning to end.

Kids will be performing with Marcel for Act I, the Intro act. Marcel will be the river spirit and long hair (like Chinese dragon tail) in which several people behind and will follow him procession holding up the hair (these people will be spaced out evenly and following me while holding my hair up with bamboo poles). The hair is to represent the confluence of the Kicking Horse River/Columbia River/Blaeberry River .
The GKHAT kids can attend with little effort. Ideally, you would wear you blue GKHAT jack or another blue jacket. If you don't have a blue jacket, don't sweat it. The GKHAT kids will then follow behind the head of the water spirit and move back and forth through my hair while walking around the perimeter of the bon fire to a set song that will be played upon our entrance.
The more the merrier! It's an easy fun event for all the GKHAT athletes to participate in! So please join us.
We'll contact you after you RSVP as more information comes.
If you have questions, direct them to evanwieren@gkhat.ca
