While 2020 has brought many changes to the town of Golden, there is no doubt that in the next few months, the snow will fly and we will be turning our attention to the ski hill for some much deserved fun and escape. To add to the anticipation of the 2020 ski season, GKHAT is excited to be building a brand new ski cross course opening this season. 

What is Ski Cross, you might ask?  

Picture four skiers racing head to head through a course peppered with jumps, rollers and berms, hustling to make it first past the finish line in order to advance to the next heat of racing. Ski cross involves technical skill, strategy and quick thinking through each and every run. Canada is a world leader in this fast paced sport with many World Cup crystal globes and Olympic gold medals earned as the sport becomes increasingly popular. 

GKHAT has been lucky to have past and current Team Canada athletes, Dave Duncan and India Sherret, work with our skiers on a small introductory course over the past two seasons. Now that our athletes have caught the ski cross bug, we are thrilled to roll out a full sized course coming for this season. 

Many thanks to all the local players who have worked hard to make our big dream of a Ski Cross Course come true: Thank you to CBT and Dogtooth Construction for contributing the funding and machines needed to move all that dirt. Shout out to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort for your close partnership and incredible support; to our freeride sister organization GnAR for being involved in the grant process. We could not keep things rolling without our GKHAT parent volunteers showing up on event and race days.
