Mini GKHAT

Ages 4 and 5 for 10 days of skiing

Mini GKHAT is for 4 and 5 year-old skiers who want to build strong skiing skills all over the mountain, and get an introduction to the world of ski racing. The program consists of 10 weekends, 4 half days and 6 full days, including 3 club events. As a prerequisite, skiers must be able to ski in a confident manner independently on easy terrain (ie. from Catamount top down). Beginner skiing programs are offered by the Winter Sport school at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Feel free to contact us to help decide what is the right program for your young skier.

The focus of MINI GKHAT is to establish a foundation of strong skiing skills like balance and mobility, teach young athletes how to ski safely on the mountain, ski as part of a group, and most importantly to have lots of FUN while doing it. We use a combination of the all mountain environment, and racing environments to develop skillful young skiers.

Our target skier:coach ratio is 4:1 or less. Groups start smaller (~2:1) during the half days in the first half of the season and get combined when Minis switch to full days. Parents may be asked for assistance as tail-gunners with the group at various times through the season.

This begins January 3, 2020.
Program runs Friday, Saturday or Sunday
First 4 weeks: Morning session 9:00am - 11:30am or Afternoon session 12:00 to 2:30pm
Remaining 7 weeks: 9:00 am - 2:30 pm for the full day

Volunteering

Our mini program requires a high commitment of on snow participation. Because our minis are young, small, and new to skiing, they require more hands-on participation from parents. We rely heavily on the parents of athletes in this program to tail-gun (ski and ride chairlift with). You can expect at MINIMUM to be tail-gunning with your skier for all three club events in the season to create 1:1 ratio for riding the chairlifts. For safety reasons, our minis cannot participate in our club events without the help of their parent/guardian. The Club asks all mini parents to be prepared to volunteer to ski with their athlete anytime extra supervision is required. Please ensure the volunteer nature of this program works with your availability.

Volunteer Positions for mini parents:
  • Tail-gunning at GKHAT events
  • Tail-gunning during training if/when necessary
  • Supplying lunches/treats for volunteers
  • Sorting/Organizing bibs
  • Making Goody Bags
